Airport Information
When seaching for flights, type GIG for the arrival airport.
GIG is the Rio de Janeiro / Galeao-Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport / RIOGaleao
The international airport is approximately 30 minutes from Downtown Rio de Janeiro
~My flight booking is for October 28 at 8:40pm out of MIA~
Transportation
Uber/Official Taxis - these are the easiest and most reliable way to get around. They're widely used by locals and visitors alike!
Walking - Day time is best! At night, stick to well-lit and lively streets!
Renting a Car - I'd advise against this unless you have experience driving in Latin America
Accomodations
Hotel / AirBnB is totally your preference, however, we recommend staying near Copacabana if it is your 1st time in Brazil! Use Avenida Atlantica as a guideline and you can find places such as the Copacabana Palace. Copacabana is highly touristy so you will find many english speakers here.
If you prefer more lowkey, then Ipanema or Leblon are great choices. They are less touristy than Copacabana
If you want a more true Brazilian experience, the Botafogo area is a great choice.
~ We will be staying at the Fairmont Copacabana~
Currency
Brazil's Currency is the Reais (Brazilian Real)
$1 USD = $5.03 BRL (as of May 2026)
Exchange currency before you go or at the RioGaleao Airport
Using a Credit Card is okay but not all places support all carriers or are cash only
